Standing on the iconic Polo Fields in San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park on the final night of a historic anniversary celebration, fans gathered to honor a journey that began more than sixty years ago. What started with a small band’s debut in a Menlo Park pizza parlor evolved into a cultural movement that shaped the psychedelic rock era. That band — originally known as The Warlocks before becoming the Grateful Dead — first played this very spot when legendary promoter Bill Graham booked them for a benefit concert on behalf of the San Francisco Mime Troupe.
Fast-forward to today: through the enduring portal of music history, Dead & Company returned to the same sacred ground, presented by Another Planet Entertainment —led by former Bill Graham Fillmore associates. On this final night in Golden Gate Park, in the city forever tied to the Summer of Love and the psychedelic scene, Dead & Co. delivered nearly three hours of music spanning the Grateful Dead’s full catalog, from their debut album to their final recordings. They opened with a spirited cover of “Let the Good Times Roll” and closed with “Touch of Grey” — the Grateful Dead’s only Top 40 hit.
The emotional peak of the night came when the children of all the original Grateful Dead members took the stage to introduce the show. Phil Lesh’s son, Graham Lesh, joined the band for a few songs in the second set, a powerful reminder of the generational influence that continues to unite fans across decades.
As the warm, sunlit afternoon faded into a cool San Francisco evening, the night became more than just a concert — it was a living memorial to the band’s legacy, a celebration of community, and perhaps even a preview of what could come next. After all, in the world of the Dead, the music never stops.
