Derivative Cover of Holiday Classic
Not Your Grandma's Jingle Bells
A little ditty…
If Halloween & Christmas music had a baby, this version of 'Jingle Bells' could be it. Our mellow & dark country influenced holiday track, “Jingle Bells” is a derivative cover of the 1857 composition “The One Horse Open Sleigh,” originally created by James Lord Pierpont and first recorded in 1889.
“Jingle Bells” was originally titled “One Horse Open Sleigh” and was composed using fragments from various poems and songs of the day as an homage to the traditional Thanksgiving holiday sleigh races held across Massachusetts during the 1850’s.Â
The song “Jingle Bells” was first recorded on wax cylinder in 1889, making it the first known recording of a Christmas song. The 1889 recording is lost to history but a 1898 recording by the Edison Male Quartette survives. #MusicHistory FOLLOW #ThelenCreative
